BALI PLUS Magazine March 2016
It’s a magical month of March here in Bali, because where else can you find colourful monsters with bulging eyes, bared teeth and sharp claws roaming the streets? Yes, they’re made of paper and bamboo, but they are certainly a sight to behold. It’s wonderful to be in Bali at this time of the year, where we can all stand witness to some of the most sacred and holy traditions to still exist in the world today. Many of you would already know about Nyepi, but there are many rituals that are involved before, and after the big Day of Silence that marks the Hindu New Year. For your easy reference, we’ve listed them out for you under our Don’t Miss section.
There are also a couple of Festivals taking place in Ubud for yoga, dance and martial arts lovers, so that’s something else to look forward to. With the coming of Nyepi comes great deals and promotions from some of the most leading and sought-after hotels here in Bali. Since it is a day of silence, contemplation and meditation, all shops around the island will be closed for 2 days as a sign of respect. The best thing to do would be to take up one of the Nyepi Packages on offer and enjoy yourselves in comfort and ease. Check out our Hot Deals page for some options and take your pick. For more in depth details of hotels and restaurants, don’t forget to peruse through our Review Pages for an insider’s point of view, featuring some of the island’s most renowned properties and locales in Legian, Seminyak, Gianyar and even Ubud.
There are always something new and exciting to be found around here, and we’ve also got that all down for you under our What’s New section. There’s a new cookbook on Balinese recipes that’s getting quite a following, a new coffee shop featuring local roasts and a new product feature by Elemis at the Mandara Spa in Grand Nikko Bali. Sephora is also newly opened, much to the joy of women (and some men) everywhere, and some new and exciting, must-try dining features such as the VW Combi Van that’s been converted to a food truck at the Courtyard by Seminyak Bali. So go ahead and explore, and while you’re at it, do share with us your stories and feedback around Bali on our Facebook page (Baliplus Magazine) or take some photos and tag u on Instagram (Baliplus).
Till next time, Om-Swastiastu and welcome to Bali.
